Free Ontario Grade 9 Math tools
Two public tools for students, parents, and teachers working with Ontario Grade 9 Math. One turns a target course mark into the exam score that would get you there. The other shows how MTH1W is organized in GradeForge’s verified curriculum record, including all 43 specific expectations and the ten written skill guides.
Calculator
What mark do I need on the final exam?
Enter the mark on the work you have already finished, the percentage of the course the exam is worth, and the course mark you want. The page shows the exam score required, the highest mark a perfect exam can produce, and a table of course marks at sample exam scores.
It assumes the exam is the only assessment still to come and that marks stay on a 0 to 100 scale. It rounds the required exam score up to the nearest tenth so the number it shows is enough to reach the target.

Ontario Grade 9 Math course map
MTH1W is the de-streamed Grade 9 Mathematics course in The Ontario Curriculum, 2021. This map lists every specific expectation stored in GradeForge’s verified record, with the ministry wording and GradeForge’s short name for that code.
You can filter by strand, jump to a written guide when one exists, and split a study budget using the provincial assessment’s operational-question mix. That mix is not your teacher’s mark weighting, and GradeForge is not affiliated with EQAO.
Open the MTH1W map →Use them together
- Read the course outline and find the exam’s weight. If the outline is not available, do not invent one. The calculator cannot look it up.
- Calculate the exam score that reaches the course mark you care about. If the result is above 100, the target is out of reach from the exam alone.
- Open the course map and spend time where the assessment asks more questions, then read the matching skill guide. Algebra is 18 of the 50 operational questions in GradeForge’s EQAO preparation contract. Number is 10, Data is 8, Geometry and Measurement is 8, and Financial Literacy is 6.
Ten skill guides already walk through a worked example and a common mistake. The course map links each guide from its expectation code. The other expectations are listed so the course is not reduced to the ten guides.
Questions people ask
Do these tools need an account?
No. The exam calculator and the course map both run in your browser. GradeForge does not ask you to sign up, and it does not store the marks you type.
Which course are they for?
They are for Ontario Grade 9 Mathematics, course code MTH1W, which is the only course GradeForge teaches. Grades 10, 11, and 12 are outside this launch.
Will the calculator tell me my report-card mark?
Only for the simple case it states: one current mark, one exam weight, and one target. Your school outline can use more categories, drop a lowest score, or require the exam to be written. Use the outline’s weights, not a guessed provincial exam percentage. GradeForge’s MTH1W record does not contain a fixed course-exam weight.
